OP-ED: Medicaid Cuts Would Devastate People with Lifelong Disabilities in NJ

BY STEPHANIE A. PRATICO - Imagine losing your home, job, and your best friend. Now imagine what would happen if you lost all three, at the same time. Throw in the loss of healthcare for your specialized needs, and it all quickly becomes your worst nightmare.

For people with disabilities, under the Medicaid plan proposed in Congress, this nightmare is fast becoming reality — unless we stand up now.

New Jersey Audubon not happy with federal EPA

The Coalition for the Delaware River Watershed, led by New Jersey Audubon and National Wildlife Federation, and its partners are deeply dismayed by this action.

TRENTON - Child safety advocates - and anyone with a baby in their lives - crossed a big hurdle today after a bill to ban the sale of supplemental baby mattresses passed in the New Jersey Senate Monday afternoon.

The vote came down to the wire, with neither side sure of whether the bill would pass. The measure received 21 yes votes, with the rest of the lawmakers not voting.

Bamboozled: Bill to ban baby mattress sales mysteriously marooned in committee

Here's a peek at how lobbying efforts have slowed the progress of a consumer bill that's earned hefty bipartisan support.

The bill is S2616. It would ban the sale and manufacture of supplemental baby mattresses -- those sold as additions to soft-sided play yards, playpens and porta-cribs. It's an issue Bamboozled has been following closely.

Those who support the bill say it would save babies' lives. Those against the measure argue the mattresses are safe and say the bill is an economic issue.
